Celebrating the good life with family and close friends, man of the moment,\u00a0Consul\u00a0Louie Ablaza,\u00a0recently celebrated his 78th birthday with a barrio fiesta boodle fight lunch. Louie realizes the importance of celebrating the milestones in our lives, as well as taking time out to get away from it all.\u00a0Thus, their castle estate, Amelia,\u00a0in Cavite was the perfect venue for such a celebration. The festivities kicked off with a Thanksgiving\u00a0Mass at\u00a0their chapel, one of the\u00a0cluster of structures that\u00a0comprise their\u00a0vast sprawling estate, stretching out for miles.\u00a0A\u00a0two-and-a-half hour drive,\u00a0Amelia is a luxurious urban escape like no other, and a stone\u2019s throw from the hustle and bustle of daily living.<\/p>\n

Once again the queen\u00a0of Amelia, Consul\u00a0Mellie Ablaza,\u00a0pulled out all the stops for her beloved husband, Louie. Party people love\u00a0theme parties and the marching band in the driveway had set the tone for the barrio fiesta mood.\u00a0The guests included diplomats, family,\u00a0and close friends. After\u00a0the mass,\u00a0barong-clad models escorted the Filipiniana-attired guests to the open area beside the chapel for appetizers of roasted calf,\u00a0lechon baka,\u00a0bibingka, dirty ice cream,\u00a0and more. The guests then proceeded to the Pavilion for the boodle fight lunch. Kudos to their multitalented event designer son,\u00a0Jun Jun Ablaza, who transformed the Pavillion into a kaleidoscope of whimsical fantasy. Hanging multicolored\u00a0umbrellas were bundled together creating huge balls in bold colors and horns were grouped together creating a sunburst pattern, which added festive cheer to the occasion.<\/p>\n

Emcee\u00a0TedrickYau\u00a0spoke on the insights of the chosen theme. Eldest son, Consul\u00a0Marc,\u00a0did the welcome speech followed by Louie\u2019s grandson\u00a0Xavi Ablaza.\u00a0The Ablaza family, led by lovely Mellie,\u00a0sang the birthday song while the birthday cake\u2014a miniature version of Amelia with Louie\u2019s favorite automobile, the Hummer, was wheeled out onto the Pavillion.\u00a0Louie blew out the candle as the guests joined\u00a0in singing the birthday song.\u00a0Seated in long communal tables laden with banana leaves,\u00a0the invitees awaited Chef\u00a0Jessie Sincioco\u2019s\u00a0crave-worthy Filipino farm-fresh dishes.\u00a0One by one, the mouthwatering viands were spread out, among them\u00a0pako\u00a0salad, fresh crabs, fresh oysters, barbecues, a whole\u00a0cochinillo,\u00a0adobong pusit.\u00a0Some of the guests ate with their hands, like the\u00a0Filipino-speaking wife of the Canadian Ambassador Mme.\u00a0Irene Reeder, while the less adventurous opted for silverware. The setting was indeed of provincial-style hospitality.<\/p>\n

As in most\u00a0barrio\u00a0fiestas, musical numbers by townsfolk\u00a0is a tradition. Similarly, with\u00a0other\u00a0Ablaza\u00a0celebrations, the program started\u00a0off with\u00a0the grandchildren. Performing\u00a0alayor, the offering of gifts were the talented\u00a0Xavi,\u00a0Santi,\u00a0and\u00a0Rocio Ablaza,\u00a0children of\u00a0Consul Marc. To Louie\u2019s surprise, the rest of his grandchildren,\u00a0Alfonso,\u00a0Agu,\u00a0Amanu,\u00a0Azi,\u00a0and\u00a0Azia, children of Dr.\u00a0Jofe\u00a0and\u00a0Czarina Ablaza Syquia,\u00a0danced while performing a\u00a0putong\u00a0or the offering of flowers. The globally renowned\u00a0Bayanihan Dance Company\u00a0entertained everyone with\u00a0Pandanggo sa Ilaw\u00a0and the foreign guests were invited to dance the\u00a0Tinikling.\u00a0Closing remarks were done by Santi, who\u00a0extended\u00a0a heartwarming message to the\u00a0beloved Louie. Before heading for the long trip home, guests indulged in a buffet of native delicacies and fruits.<\/p>\n
